Dr. Bernadette Boden-Albala is an Assistant Professor of Sociomedical Sciences in Neurology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Sociomedical Science at the Mailman School of Public Health. Dr. Boden-Albala received her undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Queens College, a master's degree in Tropical Medicine, and her doctorate in Sociomedical Sciences at the Mailman School of Public Health. Dr Boden-Albala is the recipient of an AHA grant evaluating education and social support on blood pressure status in post stroke minority women. She is the director of the very active Northern Manhattan Stroke Support group.
Dr. Boden-Albala has served as Research Director and Co-Investigator of the Northern Manhattan Study for over 7 years. She is also a Co-Investigator on a number of grants related to the stroke epidemiology, genetics and periodontal disease. She is faculty in the Neuroepidemiology Training program and teaches Medical Sociology in the School of Public Health. Her research focuses on stroke and cardiovascular disease with emphasis on health disparities among gender and race-ethnic groups, and the social dimensions of stroke in minority populations.
Dr Boden-Albala serves on a number of AHA and NIH committees. She is a member of the American Heart Association, National Stroke Association, American Academy of Neurology and the American Public Health Association.
